Back in November, we wrote a Health Tips article about getting into running. Well, if that inspired you then this month has a whole lot to offer when it comes to running opportunities! And if you started but stopped, then there’s no better time than the present to get back in the Cottages of Fort Collins fitness center and on that treadmill! Just take a look at the following fun and exciting marathons and half-marathons this month has happened in Colorado:
Hit the Ground Running at These Colorado Marathons
- Catch Me if You Can @ Fort Collins on February 9. Starting and finishing at Fort Collins’s Red Truck Beer Company, this is a pretty unique Valentine-themed run. Offering both 5K and 10K races, here the ladies (or one partner) get a head start of either three minutes on the 5K or five minutes on the 10K. Then the second half of the team sets off to see if they can catch their partners. There are only 500 spots for this race so be sure to register with your partner early!
- Valentine Twosome Relay @ Pueblo on February 10. If you don’t like the idea of chasing down your partner (or being chased) but still want to do something fun and Valentines-themed, then consider nearby Pueblo’s Valentine Twosome Relay race. This is also a good choice for those not quite ready for marathon-length runs! The event does require two-person teams in which bringing your own costumes and creative batons is encouraged. During the race, one partner will run the 1.6-mile lap around City Park before handing off their baton to their partner. Organizes have awards for not just the fastest, but also for those
w hobring the Biggest Baton, Most Creative Baton, Most Romantic Baton andUgliest Baton. Best of all, these awards are made of chocolate! So bring your sweet tooth too!
- Pueblo Marathon and Half @ Pueblo on February 24. If you go to the Valentine Twosome Relay and find yourself loving Pueblo’s gorgeous landscapes and smalltown charm, then you should plan on returning at the end of the month for the town’s annual Pueblo Marathon and Half. This outstanding race runs along the picturesque Arkansas River Trail. This 10-foot wide and paved trail
rusnthrough the Lake Pueblo State Park and into the Historic Downtown district. It’s a fun and exciting race and a great choice for those who like some pretty backdrops on their runs.
Hydrate, Stretch, Practice, and Have Fun!
Before setting off on any racing event, whether it’s a mile relay or 10K marathon, don’t foget the fundamentals! Start off by getting practice miles in on the treadmill or paths around the Cottages at Fort Collins. On the day of, do your stretches, drink plenty of water, and have fun!
